Using the "Ratio" attribute results in selection square disappearing

When using the ratio property in the HTML, the selection square disappears if you click within the picture but outside of it.
If you're using IE a weird bug occurs where, after clicking the image again to re-create it, the selection square gets "stuck" to the mouse pointer. Making an accurate selection impossible. This doesn't happen at all if ratio isn't used, the selection square just moves to the clicked area. Is there anyway to still use ratio but not have this problem occur? This is the only thing still preventing me from deploying.
